I write reverse-coming-of-age comedies about women who are finally learning to cut themselves some slack. After growing up in two very Catholic communities - the suburbs of Chicago, and San Antonio, TX - my worldview was shaped by weekly Mass, abstinence classes, and science teachers who balked at the idea of teaching about evolution. So, imagine my shock and delight when I moved to Los Angeles at the tender age of 18, and learned that the world wouldn't fall apart of I kissed a boy or went to a party. Living on my own, I had to shed the skin of expectations that had been passed down to me, and discover and develop my own moral compass. And those are the kinds of stories that I like to tell : tales of women finding their own way - mentally, physically, and spiritually - in the world.
